Just before ww1 in a small town with no name nestled right up against the White River There was a family of cats or furries, fairly common in the area, but these were special they walked just like humans and were even better hunters. Their trade was indeed hunting in the surroundings woods and fishing on the river. They were a happy family though rather large with some 30 members. The newest was born just at that time and named Kit. Kit grow up on the towns docks making friends with the river boat captains and their crews trading what he caught or killed for news from the towns. His family thought he should trade for money but he held them off with claims of “I know what I’m doin. Ya can’t say you would know anythin other than this town if it wasn’t fer me”. Over time the town grew and gained a name with the river boats going and coming from the Mississippi and consequently Saint Louis and further on the great lakes coal barges and river boats headed for Chicago and New York on the great lakes. They called it what it was River Town and made it a regular stop over for supplies and in some cases trade. The town recognized Kit as the one who started it and felt he should he should get to be their tradesman as it were and he ran the now prospering Docks which grew with the town around it from the 30 family members plus friends to 100 family members and any who either couldn’t afford further passage and those that settled there deliberately. He still made friends with the crew of the river boats some not so High in regards with the legal system. Even so he didn’t make much money he was to honest most went to his family which surprisingly didn’t resent him. The family now ran the docks in the background which he knew but didn’t stop them at this point he was 12 and the not quit head of the family he wasn’t happy about though. 2 years later WW1 was in full swing and soldiers were coming and going on the river guarding what appeared to be military supplies And this is where his luck paid off for he was too young for the drafts and couldn’t even volunteer if he wanted to so he plied his new trades on the newly made guards and sailors. The war taking most of the able men from the cities and towns left him with few to work with but at this point he could make his mark and the ladies of his family and their all to willing friends were more than enough for what he had planned.

The year went by slowly and Kit’s new busness was doing well. He was a weapons smuggler and a small but profitable one. He paid of captains and nescery crew a small fee here and there. He took a crate of his choosing from any barge that let him and others gave him what he wanted and no one noticed a crate or two was expected with miss counts and all the rest of shipping hazards. Gun smith companies were making new and better weapons all the while and got at least a crate or two of each. Ofcourse it wouldn’t last as the war ended and missing family was returned and those that weren’t missing just came back they grew angry and jelous of what he had going and that he profited while they were at war. On the surface they accepted what he offered and bided their time till they felt it was right took them a year. After some time Kit invested in a barge 4 floats long he had a new model diesel tug it was small sure but it worked. He often rode with it never disembarking. But just along for the ride. It took pickups and deliveries the crew was respectable so little smuggling aboard but there was some.
