Character name: Kung-sun Tantan [ Trad. Chinese 公孫丹丹, Pinyin Gongsun Dandan]. Nicknamed "Glass Phoenix"
Age: 28
Ethnicity/Species: Han Chinese
Summary of personality and appearance: A shorter man with features which immediately pin him as Northern Chinese. His eyes are rather large, their gaze around various things to denote an observant character. His complexion is rather pale, his face round and his earlobes long. His hair is generally well-groomed except for seeping sideburns. there's some peach fuzz of points for a moustache as well, making him come off a bit younger. From neck to waist he dons a gentle green jacket with frog fasteners going from the collar across. Wide pants are beneath. His fingers often fiddle with the beads on a bracelet which are bright vermilion. In short, he is rather small and demure, and the only thing which likely denotes his presence are his clothing and being considered a minority.
At first glance, Tantan is highly aloof, terse, but accommodating. He is used to division of people and prejudices and was raised with a mindset that people are apart, so he will use that to keep himself secure in society. His religion also makes it so that he tries to interfere with worldly things as much as he can, though that being his ends vary because most people can detect his inherent shyness.
Getting to know the man personally, he is the type to think constantly and in spite of second-guessing himself holds a natural sense of intuition. He is fairly stuck up and slightly judgmental of people he is dealing with and does attest stereotype as blame for behaviors he doesn't like, and does chide people he is familiar with. For the era, though, his expressions of this are mild. For in spite of his limited involvement, he is rather compassionate when compelled to be - even effeminate.
Tantan's comfort zone is a small-but-fragile niche. If it is violated, his gentle nature can be exploited for survival.
Skills: Tantan is a specialist in Traditional Chinese Medicines and creates his own pills for both dietary and medicinal purposes. For those ends, he does carry wine for scientific, religious and medical purposes - thus fitting the SRM. His Taoist knowledge, passed down generationally, expands into dietary practice, cooking, and exercises.
He runs his own shop, which is a mix of a grocery store, a medicine shop with both pre-made pills and various fungi, and a section with books, charms and incense. It is a simple life, but he is self-reliant even in solitude.
He's a pretty good flautist.
Weapons: If prompted to, Tantan can concoct a poison cocktail, but lacks the incentive to own any offhand.
Sample Post: Mr. Kung-sun found himself stalling for the most part in front of his small establishment, propped in a chair with a half-lidded expression. After all, heaven forbid a youngster would take a peach from the baskets he was keeping an eye on. For all of his bundled up nerves with children, it would at least humor him for the rest of the day. Kids were good with stories, their inherent evilness perfect conversation pieces.
Grasping his head he rose from the stool, gripping his back with a sigh from the strain on it after all the forced posture. To get the feelings back inside of it, he let his hands go from his back to his knees and puffed his chest up to remove the strai--
Oh, there we go. Another child making a face at him for getting rid of that unwanted burn down his spine. Although this happened so many times, and the person below him was something around eight, a burning sensation went through his cheeks. "What?" he interjected, accented but with an organic tone that indicated fluentness. The boy by now was stepping up to take a hand at an orange, but the shadow of the man barely twice his height came over. Sometimes, courtesy was the worst thing a child could take.
"You want one of those? You can have a bag for fifteen cent, my treat."
And indeed the kid looked befuddled. Suddenly, there was stakes here. Money to be had, cash owed, and no allowance to speak of. And he talked to him. "I'm not interested," He blurted with a wide stare and a dazed sort of look, slowly edging off and running.
By the time he'd left, Tantan tried very hard not to grin, but his face blushed even more in the silliest triumph, clearing his throat and walking back inside as it'd gotten a little late.
